Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a party making communications close to the front line. Throughout the day he moved above among his men under fire, encouraging them at their work, and continued to do so even during a heavy enemy barrage and counter attack. It was owing to his magnificent example and determination that the work was completed.'
