Great Uncle Walter

Great Uncle Walter

known to all as Uncle Wal. He lived with his younger Sister Rachel ( not to be confused with his Mother Rachel)though in saying that she did live with them as well (my Grandparents) I didnt know my Great Grandmother as she died when I was 6 months old, am sure she would have had many cuddles in that time

I was born to his Niece Doreen, in 1950. I grew up spending a lot of time with my Grandparents. when I was about 5 there was a flood. (one of many to come in my life time)

then by the end of the 50's I had my mothers bike and I used to ride to their place, Uncle wal would the give me some money to go back up into town and get the saturday paper for the racing page and his Port Wine Cigarillos. I would tide back again and polish his boots to be ready for when one of his brothers came to get his bets and if he was ready to go out for his few beers with mates n other family.... then walk home this walk would be about 1 1/2 miles. His nephews would come by also on a saturday morning to see him...bring the little ones as well . This was a ritual with many family members coming by even thru the week
