Gordon was the youngest of five children of George William Bewsher (born 1882 in Albany WA) and Ingeborg (Bella) Ann Andersen (born 1889 in Bunbury WA). George served in the AIF and WWI, and Gordon was born and raised in the Bunbury Region and was working as a Cycle Mechanic when he enlisted in the RAN in September 1938. He was Discharged in December 1940
Gordon married Rosalie Olive Hughes (born 1919 in Pingelly WA) in 1941 in Bunbury, where Rosalie was working at the Bright Spot Tea Room as a Waitress. Gordon worked in Bunbury as a House Painter, and Rosalie enlisted in the WAAF in 1942, serving as an Aircraftwoman (Service No: 99417) until her Discharge in 1944, Gordon was working in Bunbury as a House Painter.
Gordon and Rosalie relocated to Perth WA in 1943 and Gordon worked as a Machinist. By 1949 Gordon was working as a House Painter, and he and Rosalie lived in Bentley in Perth WA. Rosalie died in 1984 and Gordon in 1992
