John was the second of seven children of Robert Easton (born 1878 in Scotland) and Ann Elizabeth Cantlay (born 1878 in Toowoomba, QLD). Robert (a Steam Train Fireman) and Ann married in Toowoomba, QLD in 1907 and raised their family in Brisbane, QLD.

John had been a Banana Grower at Mary's Creek in Kilkivan, QLD in his 20's, and mwas working as a Labourer in Brisbane, QLD in 1936 when he married Beryl Mary Mole (born 1910 in Bundamba, Ipswich QLD).

John and Beryl settled in Brisbane and in July 1942 John enlisted in the RAAF, He was a Leading Aircraftman (Service No: 76564) with 11 Communications Unit and was Discharged in December 1945. John's brothers also served in WWII - Robert as a Sapper (Service Nos: Q14385/QX60405) in the Army, and Allan in the RAAF as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No: 76457). Brother-in-Law Stanley Lewin was a Flight Sergeant (Service No: 8697) in the RAAF.

Following his Discharge, John and Bery remained in Brisbane where John worked as a Labourer and Storeman> Beryl died in 1996 and John in 2001
