Norman was the only child of Ralph Gordon Goodall (born 1899 in Brisbane, QLD) and Dorothy Elizabeth Keech (born 1903 in Brisbane, QLD). Ralph, a Salesman, and Dorothy married in 1925 in Brisbane, QLD. Ralph (and his brother Stanley) had served in WWI

Norman was a Labourer in Brisbane, QLD when he married Vera Florence before enlisting in the RAAF in July 1940. He served as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No:23072). Following his Discharge in October 1945, Norman and Vera continued to live at Annerley in Brisbane, where Norman was a Sheetmetal Worker until his death in 1952.
