25 Jul 1917: Honoured Military Medal, 'The Winter Offensive' - Flers/Gueudecourt winter of 1916/17, 'At BERNAFAY. On 7th December, 1916, the camp occupied by his Company was shelled. The first shell landed in the Company cookhouse and exploded; destroying the greater part of the building and setting the remains on fire. Although wounded Sapper CRANE entered the building and through his efforts 2 severely wounded men were extricated from the burning debris.' Com Gazette: 25 July 1917 on page 1543 at position 109
