John or ‘Buz’ he joined 5 RAR in May 1968, after completing Recruit and Infantry training. He deployed to Vietnam with the Battalion, serving in 6 Platoon B Company. In August he was posted to 1 ALSG at Vung Tau. On his return to Australia he was reposted to 5 RAR before transferring to Service Corps (RAASC), in August 1970, until his discharge in September 1972. - Gary Townsend
