Wilfred was the second son of Albert Stewart Meek (born 1871 in London) and first wife Emilie Louise Eichorn (born 1875 in Singapore). Albert - a Naturalist who collected butterflies, bugs, birds and small deer -  arrived in Cooktown QLD in 1889 seeking work in a museum. He married Emilie in 1893 in Cooktown and worked as a Naturalist, making frequent expeditions to New Guinea (A Naturalist in Cannibal Land, edited by Frank Fox).

Wilfred worked as a Clerk in Brisbane QLD befroe moving to  Sydney, NSW (where his father was then living). He was a Clerk in Sydney in 1936 when he married Gladys May Butler (born 1906 in Gympie, QLD) - Gladys was a Nurse. 

In 1942 Wilfred and Gladys were living in Woolongong, NSW when he enlisted in the ACMF. Wilfred served as a Private (Service No:N169939) and was attached to 29 Battalion VDC when he was Discharged in September 1945.

Wilfred and Gladys moved to Gayndah, QLD where he was a Bank Manager, then moving to Rosewood on the Darling Downs and Tarragindi where he died in 1985. Gladys died in 1987.
