Crew member of Sunderland B/461 Squadron captained by F.H Bunce attacked and shot down into the sea by nine German Ju 88 on 23 March 1944. When the Sunderland ditched into the sea he sustained a seruous head injury but escaped onto a wing of the Sunderland with other crew members but he was unconscious .He along with 5 other crew members was washed off the wing by a heavy ocean swell and could not be recovered and drowned at sea
