Arthur’s Story
Arthur enlisted in October 1941. He was landed in Malaya with his unit, who were part of an effort to stop the Japanese advance towards Singapore. After three weeks he was listed as missing. His father (William ) Arthur Magill was later notified he was captured by the Japanese. He was repatriated from Thailand at the end of the war.
He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery.
Arthur worked at Griffin Coal and eventually retired from there.
