Kate, born in South Australia, was a Registered Nurse working in Western Australia from the early 1900's - at Perth Public Hospital, Coolgardie Sanatorium, Ravensthorpe Hospital (as Matron) and as a Midwife in Perth before enlisting in the Australian Army Nursing Service on 13 January 1914. Kate embarked from Australia on 21 November 1914, serving in Rouen, France at 1 Australian General Hospital and No 2 Stationery Hospital, and on Transport Duty (HF Kuara). Kate was Discharged on 6 February 1920 in Victoria, and returned to Fremantle, WA where she married John James Broomhall (born 1861 in Fremantle, WA) in 1922. James was a Customs Officer at Fremantle, and a Justice of the Peace, and in 1890 had served as Mayor of Roebourne, WA.

Kate and James lived at Greenmount in WA until James' death in 1933. Kate moved to Perth, WA where she died in 1965.
