Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Mervyn was the third of four children of Walter Henry Crole (born 1890 in Warragul, Victoria) and Florence Helena Mears (born 1890 in Pakenham, Victoria). In 1913, Walter (a Labourer) married Florence in Leongatha, Victoria. They lived in Leongatha, where Walter was a Labourer, until moving to Newhave in Port Phillip Bay in 1918. Walter worked as a Fisherman at Newhaven before moving to Phillip Island, where he was a Boat Builder.

Mervyn was a Fisherman at Newhaven in December 1942 when he enlisted in the RAN (Volunteer Reserves) as a Cadet (Service No:PM/V498) on HMAS Lonsdale. He served on HMAS Stella Maris and Penguin, and was an Able Seaman attached to HMAS Moreton when he was Discharged in May 1946. Brother Reginald Vaughan (Sapper; Service No:VX62632) served in WWII, as did numerous cousins, Uncles and Aunts.

In 1947 Mervyn was a Fisherman on Phillip Island when he married Marie Louise Walker (born 1928 in Melbourne, Victoria). Mervyn and Marie settled at Newhaven in Port Phillip Bay, where Mervyn was a Fisherman. Marie died in 1996 and Mervyn in 2000.
