Sidney was the only child of John Andrew Philp (born 1863 in Scotland) and Catherine (Kate) McIntyre (born 1850 in Scotland). John ( a Seaman/Steward) and Kate (a Housekeeper) married in 1884 in Scotland and immigrated to Brisbane, QLD. The family settled in Brisbane, QLD and John continued working as a Seama/Ship's Steward.
In 1912 Sidney was a Salesman in Brisbane, QLD when he married Martha Ann Linde (born 1890 in Gympie, QLD) and in January 1916 Sidney enlisted with the AIF, serving as a Private (Service No:5442) with 26th Infantry Battalion. He was WiA on two occasions and was a Corporal with the 26th Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in March 1919.
Sidney and Martha lived in Brisbane where Sidney was a Salesman and Draper before moving to Bribie Island in 1928. Sidney worked as Smallgoods Salesman on Bribie Island and in Southport, QLD, and in the early 1940s he and Martha returned to Brisbane, where Sidney was a Peace Officer. Martha died in 1969 and Sidney in 1973.
