Eric was the only child of Albert Ernest Marlin (born 1882 in Richmond, NSW) and Lily May O'Keefe (born 1887 in Murrumburrah, NSW). Albert (a Carpenter) and Lily married in Sydney, NSW in 1906.

In 1932 Eric was working in Sydney, NSW as a Carpenter/Carriage Builder for the NSW Railways when he married Ena Margaret Hoglund (born 1909 in Glebe, NSW) - Ena was a Machinist. Eric and Ena settled in Sydney, NSW and in May 1941 Eric enlisted in the RAAF (Service No:36635). He served as a Nursing Orderley, Leading Aircraftman and Corporal and was attached to 5 Aircraft Depot when he was Discharged in November 1945. His father Albert Ernest (Private, Service No:3140) and three Uncles served in WWI and Uncle Robert (Bob) George served in the Boer War.

Eric returned from WWII and resumed work with the NSW Railways, He and Ena lived in Sydney, and follwoing Ena's death in 1997 Eric moved to Canberra, ACT where he died in 2001.
