Wilfred was the seventh of eleven children of Walter Curwen (born 1891 in Lancashire, England) and Emma Wainwright (born 1892 in Lancashire, England). Emma immigrated with her family in 1906, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Ormulz, and Walter (a Labourer) arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1911 on board the Suffolk. Walter - a Coal Miner in Ipswich, QLD - and Emma married in 1912. They lived in several places in QLD (Howard and Goomerri in Wide Bay, Bundamba in Ipswich, Murgon and Esk on the Darling Downs) before moving to NSW, where they lived in Emmaville, at Coraki on the Clarence River, Bundarri and Sydney). Walter worked as a Labourer, Coal Miner and Bootmaker.
Wilfred was a Labourer in Sydney, NSW when he enlisted in the Army in 1944. He served as a Private (Service Nos:NX179417/N461424) with 5th Advanced Recruitment Depot and General Details Depot. He was attached to 1 Australian Machine Gun Training Battalion when he was Discharged on 17 April 1946. Brothers Thomas Harold Marriner (Service No:VX1210) and Walter Edward (Service Nos:NX155606/N256552), and Brothers-in-Law Charles Adams (Service No:NX5234), Wallace Wiggins (Service No:QX6532), Milton Hughes (Service No:130764) and Mervyn Molloy (Service Nos:QX58952/Q128385) also served in WWII.
Wilfred worked in O'Connor in the ACT, and in Sydney, NSW as a Railway Porter and Labourer. He died in 1991.
