Edward Leslie Ford was born on 12 October 1900, in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia, to father, John Robert Ford, and mother, Martha Harriet Daniel.

Edward served in an unspecified militia unit for the period of 1917 -1918.

In 1936 he married Vera Jefferette Porter.

In February 1942, Edward enlisted into the Volunteer Defence Corps (NSW), posted to 14th Battalion, Volunteer Defence Corps.  The unit was tasked with developing a guerilla warfare capability, construction of static defences and manning of defensive positions.  Edward was assigned to an Anti-Aircraft position in Sydney, NSW for the duration of his service.

Edward was medically discharged from the VDC on 17 Nov 42 from an unspecified medical condition.

Edward died on 13 May 1969, in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia, at the age of 68, and was buried in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia.
