Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

56 years ago today, on the 27th January 1968, Private Thomas Patrick Stanley, 19th Battalion (Reg No-4245), labourer from Galabee, Swansea, New South Wales and Hamilton?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 83. CATHOLIC 3-93. 136.

Born at Gravesend, United Kingdom on the 28th February 1884 to James and Mary Stanley; husband of Ethel Stanley nee?, married?, died 1969, Gosford, N.S.W.? of 87 Lockall Chase, Greenhythe, Kent, England and Manchester, England, Tom enlisted on the 8th October 1915 at Armidale, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A67 Orsova on the 11th March 1916.

Admitted to hospital 1.1.1917 (tonsillitis), 14.2.1917 (not stated).

Wounded in action - 15.4.1917 (GSW right side of chest, severe).

Commenced return to Australia 30.1.1918.

Tom arrived home on the 21st February 1918, probably invalided, being discharged probably medically unfit on the 18th September 1918.

Mr. Stanley’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Tom’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
