Biography contributed by Saint Ignatius' College

John Draper was born in Sandringham, Victoria in approximately 1897. In later years, John lived on William and Iodide Streets in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Louisa Draper was the only family member listed on John's service record. When John enlisted in the war, he listed his occupation as a grocer. John Draper was on the HMAT Afric that left Australia on 9 June 1916. He went to France in September 1916 to join the 10th Battalion.

He was sick in France on the 10th of November 1916, so he went to the hospital. The cause was put down as "exhaustion". After recovering in England he was in trouble for going AWL (in January 1917) before coming down with the mumps in March. He spent several more months in England before rejoining the 10th Battalion on 16th October 1917. He was again hospitalised twice in 1918.

John Draper did come back to Australia after the war had finished. No further details are known of his life.
