Albert was born in Brisbane on 17 Feb 1888, son of William Henry Lees and Sarah Jane Toplisk.
Private Lees enlisted 23 Apr 1916 in Mackay aged 28, and embarked from Brisbane per HMAT A49 “Seang Choon” on 19 Sep 1916.
He served on the Western Front with the 47th Battalion AIF. He was Wounded in Action with a gunshot wound to the head on 7 Jun 1917 in France. He was reported Missing in Action on 5 Apr 1918, then reported taken POW in France, and interned in POW camp in Germany.
He returned to Australia, (invalided) on 31 Mar 1919, and discharged on 18 May 1919.
He married Elsie May Bignell on 14 Apr 1928.

He died 21 Nov 1976. Albert was a labourer.
