21 Nov 1916: Honoured Military Medal, "At Ypres, on the night of the 12th and 13th October, Corporal McLachlan was first bayonet man of his squad. He was first man in the enemy trenches, at once bayoneting a German who was bombing the party. He accounted for six in all. His example and determination inspired the whole squad."
