Before the War
Arthur Ernest Beileiter was born in Bombala in 1894, the son of George and Martha Jane BEIleiter. His father owned a propertyin MAybe St, and it was here that Arthur grew up. As a young man, Arthur worked as a labourer before joining the Australian Imperial Force in 1916.
After the war
Arthur served valiantly throughout the war and suffered greatly from the effects of the poisonous gas employed by the Germans to debilitate the enemy. He was discharged from duty and returned to Australia in January, 1919, where he received a medical discharge from the AIF on 10th April 1919.
Arthur married Gladys Maud Lavell in 1921, and they were divorced in 1933. Gladys was born in Bombala in 1902. They had three children, Ernest Arthur (born 21st March 1922 in Bombala and died 2nd MAy 1982 at Ettalong, NSW, aged 60 years), Alex James (Born 1923 and died 15th December 2002 at Shoalhaven Heads, aged 79 years), and Keith who was born in 1925 and doied in 1977 aged 52 years.
Arthur passed away in 1974.
