Private Alexander McGregor (Service No:4270) enlisted in the AIF on 15 September 1915 and was attached to 8th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Melbourne for Alexandria on 29 December 1915 on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes. Private McGregor was WiA in Belgium on 20 September 1917 and evacuated to England. He embarked for the RTA on 31 January 1918 on board HT Osterley and was attached to 8th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 18 May 1918.

In WWII Private McGregor (Service No:V240787) served with the ACMF (20th Battalion VDC) as a Private and Corporal (29 October 1942) from 28 March 1942 to 1 October 1945.

Born in 1893 in Eurambeen in Victoria, Alex was seventh of ten children of Alexander McGregor Snr (b1855 in Richmond, Victoria) and Ellen Mary Ahern (b1857 in Ballarat, Victoria). Alexander (a Labourer) and Ellen married in 1882 in Ararat, Victoria and lived in Eurambeen, Waterloo and Beaufort where they raised their family and Alexander worked as a Labourer.

Alex worked as a Labourer and in 1919 in Beaufort married Mary Elizabeth Victoria Spicer (b1899 in Raglan, Victoria). Alex and Mary settled in Beaufort where they raised their family and Alex worked as a Labourer/Shearer. Mary died in 1968 and Alex in 1972.
