Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Frederick and Annie SPIVEY

Private A. SPIVEY
The first of four soldier brothers to fall in action, on March 28th, is Pte. Alf. Spivey, fourth son of Mr and Mrs Spivey of Tarrengower street, Yarraville. He enlisted three months after the war broke out and went through all the fierce fighting on Gallipoli, from Lone Pine onward. He was then transferred to France, acting as stretcher bearer through the Somme engagements. Here he was wounded and never recovered from his injuries. An uncle, Percy Spivey, fell 2 months before Alf, and a cousin, Harry McGann, died the same day as he. Two brothers, Harry and and Will are still in the French firing line, while Jim is in camp waiting to go.
