Biography contributed by Alison Renshaw

Leslie Norman Walton was the son of John Walton (1856-1941) and Elizabeth Milne McBurnie Walton (1864-1953) who were married in Bowden, South Australia on 23 April, 1883.

Leslie was born on 5 February, 1889 in Brompton, South Australia, the third of four sons.

His brothers were Harold Melville Walton (23/4/1884-20/4/1888), Robert William Torrens Walton (28/5/1886-16/12/1912) and John Geoffrey Hinch Walton (8/9/1897-2/10/1976).

Sadly for John and Elizabeth Walton three of their 4 sons died at a young age.  Harold died of Diptheria at the age of 3, Robert sadly drowned in a dam at Broken Hill at the age of 26 years old and then their beloved son Leslie died in World War 1 at the age of 28.

Leslie was described in a letter from Sgt. Parker to his parents as follows: "Sgt. Walton was of very dark complexion, with curly hair, hence our nick name Curly, and there is unfortunately, absolutley no doubt as to his identity.  I might add from my personal knowledge, Sgt Walton was very much an Australian soldier, and one for which I have the greatest regard as a pal.  He was respected by all, and no one was missed more than he."

Leslie will never be forgotten for his bravery and for fighting for his country from the descendants of the Walton family.  He had 3 nieces, Jean, June and Yvonne, 9 great nieces and nephews and many great great nieces and nephews.
