My Grandfather Harry Bruce Robinson
Harry Bruce Robinson was my grandfather. After serving at Gallipoli, he then served in France where he was wounded, receiving a gunshot wound to his thigh. His recovery was in Liverpool, England in the home of the Buchan family. After his recovery he returned to France for the remainder of the Great War. On his return to Australia he married Esther Weber and initially settled in Brighton, eventually moving his family to their forever home at Alexandra Street, Sandgate. Harry and Esther had eight children, five sons and three daughters. During the depression Harry was involved in the construction of the brick wall along the Sandgate foreshore. He was a very popular member of the Sandgate community serving as their postman for many years. Harry had major bowel surgery in1959, and sadly passed away 12 months later in 1960, his funeral service conducted at the Baptist Church at Sandgate. Harry was buried at the Bald Hills Historical Cemetery, eventually many years later joined by his loving wife. His youngest and devoted son, Neville, is interred in an adjoining grave.
My grandfather was devoted to his country, his wife and family, and his religion.
