Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Harold Claude Harrison was one of three brothers from Sydney who enlisted in the AIF. Only one was to return home, and he spent over two years as a prisoner of war in Germany. They were the sons of Frederick and Rose Agnes Harrison were living in Darlington, Sydney, New South Wales.

Harold enlisted in the AIF with his brother Osborne during July 1916. They were given consecutive regimental numbers in the 45th Battalion.

His younger brother, 2775 Pte. Osborne Leslie Harrison 13th Battalion AIF, was killed in action in Belgium on 25 September 1917.

Harold joined the 45th Battalion in France during March 1917 and served for 18 months before he was mortally wounded on 18 September 1918. He died of multiple shrapnel wounds in a casualty clearing station the next day.

Another brother, 3311 Pte. Frederick George Harrison 55th Battalion AIF, was captured by the Germans during the Battle of Fromelles on 20 July 1916. He survived the war and returned to Australia during March 1919. He was then 26 years of age.
