Enlisted at Broadmeadows, Victoria.
Sailed in the first embarkation aboard HMS Horota.
Landed at Gallipoli morning of April 25th, North Beach. Recieved a gunshot wound to his left leg. Sent to Cairo for injury and recuperation. Returned to Gallipoli in July. Sent to Lemnos with Influenza and Dysentry. Returned to unit as Gallipoli was abandoned. Sent to France where he fought on the Western Front at Ypres.
Walter returned from the war in 1919.
Married Hilda Pretty and had 2 children, Kenneth and Dorothy.
Purchased an orchard in Mooroopna that is still operating in the family to this day.
