Son of Frederick George O'Bree and Mary Ann O'Bree nee Freeland of William Street, Preston, Victoria.
Apprenticed to John Buncle & Sons, Engineers of North Melbourne for five years.
Brother of Frederick Freeland O'Bree who was killed in action on 8 November 1916 while serving with the 23rd Battalion and is buried in the Dartmoor Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt. Plot 11, Row E, Grave 54; Victor Charles O'Bree who returned to Australia on 1 January 1918 having served with the 23rd Battalion
