Served at sea in HMA Ships Anzac (II), Sydney (III), Supply, Derwent, Queenborough, Melbourne and Hobart. Ashore in HMA Ships Cerberus,  Nirimba, Lonsdale and Albatross; on loan to the PNGDF in Port Moresby and on exchange with the USN at SPCC Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania where he was awarded a Flag Officer's Commendation for his work in developing information systems for inventory management and made life long friends. 

In Australia he spend a number of years at Navy Office and HQ ADF in Canberra in positions of varying seniority involved with strategic and operational planning and resource and project management.  He served in Support Support Command Australia (Navy) as its Chief of Staff and, on its formation, Joint Logistics Command as the senior planning officer. 

A Supply (Maritime Logistics) Offficer who specialised in the management of inventory and inventory systems, he was Commander of the Naval Aviation Support Office 2002-2007 and was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in 2006.  After completing full time service in early 2007, he remained in the reserves involved in shipbuilding programs.
