Hylton enlisted in 1962, he deployed to Vietnam with 5 RAR Vietnam on 8 May 1966. I believe that he served with Alpha Company as a section commander. After the Battalion returned to Australia, he remained in Vietnam to help complete the handover to 7 RAR. Hylton returned to Australia on 17 May 1967. Hylton served a full 20 years in the Australian Defence Force, retiring as a WO1 instructor at Land Warfare Centre in May 1982.
