2 May 1917 - Recommmended for MID. Citation reads:
On the night of 29/30 April 1917 on the occasion of an enemy raid, under cover of a very heavy bombardment of our lines, Private Barden was on duty as sentry at the sap entrance. On the appearance of the enemy raiders he immediately rushed to the aid of two of his comrades in the front line bay and personally engaged three of the enemy, killing one of them. By his gallant action he prevented the disclosure to the enemy a very important position in our front line. It is regretted that Private Barden has since died of the wounds received on this occasion
