Tim enlisted in the RAN on 24 September 1966 and discharged on 23 September 1981. He was posted to the following HMAS ships/bases:

Sydney: 30 Oct 1967 - 04 Jan 1970

Albatross: 4 Jan 1970 - 18 Feb 1970

Nirimba: 18 Feb 1970 - 30 Apr 1971

Penguin: 30 Apr 1971 - 26 May 1971

Queenborough: 26 May 1971 - 17 Jan 1972

Kuttabul: 01 Jul 1974 until discharge.

He was a Leading Seaman Marine Technician Propulsion when he discharged according to his RAN File.
