Clive saw action in 1917 at the battles of (2nd) Bullecourt, Menin Road, Polygon Wood and Broodseide.

Clive was killed in action aged 17 years 11 months old on 07 Oct 1917.

His epitaph reads:

SWEET JESUS, HAVE MERCY ON HIS SOUL.
