Information suppplied by son Howard S TRURAN.
Pte William TRURAN was 21 years of age on enlistment.
He served in 16th Infantry Battalion, "C" Company, 4 Brigade Scouts.
Service = Gallipoli, Pozieres, Amiens, Messines, Ypres.
On 20 October 1917 on the Menin Road battlefield, Pte Truran was badly wounded. He was with his mate Pte MOUNSER when they went over the top to scout. Both were caught in a shell attack which killed Pte MOUNSER and wounded Bill. Bill has been shielded from the full impact by his mate. Bill was treated at the Canadian Aid Station (old German Pillbox) and was evacuated back to the UK to a hospital at Oxford University. After a long recovery he transferred to the Medical Corp and assisted with caring for the wounded. He was the only Aussie amongst the group.
He returned to Fremantle (WA) in 1919. He later married war widow Ruby Luff and they had one child together - Howard Samuel TRURAN.
