" He (William Francis Bridges) was in the next bay of trench to me on the night of corbie with Pte Sam and Pte Gurvan both of the 55th battalion AIF. When a direct shell hit them and killed all three, bridges and Sam were killed instantly, Gurvan was taken on strecher bearer but died a few minutes later"-2644 W H Collier statement.

William bridges was buried just off the top of the trench " Bridges was wounded very badly, we had trouble moving him in he was buried just off the top of the trench, a cross with his name and details was placed onto his grave"- Pte J brown strecher bearer statement

William was described as a quiet tall thin man, balding and around the age of 34
