'During the attack on MOUQUET FARM on 3rd September, 1916, this Battalion bomber did great work bombing in German dug outs. He was then sent with a message back to Battalion Headquarters, on his way he met with 3 enemy snipers who had crept up from a dug out. These he killed by bombing. He carried on his message through heavy shell fire to Battalion Headquarters a distance of 900 yards and gave a clear report verbally of the position at the Farm. He afterwards returned and assisted bomb parties until the farm had to be evacuated.'
