11/4/1917    witness said:
                   1307 T Longbottom:
                  "in the early morning Private Joseph Clapp was in the attack on the
                    front line German trench at Bullecourt. He was close to me as we
                    advanced, I saw him hit, but we had to go on.  Ultimately we had
                    to retire and go on again, passing over the ground were Clapp fell,
                    but there was no sign of him."

                   1355 A E Blake:
                   "In the attack at Bullecourt, on 11th April, a bomb shattered Clapp's
                    leg at the ankle, in the enemys second line trench. His wound was
                    dressed, and he was placed in a dugout with other wounded.  None
                    of our wounded were brought away from there."

His name is commemorated at Panel 145 at the Australian War Memorial,
Canberra, ACT.
