Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Sydney Percy Higgison was the son of George and Emily Higgison, 98 Buckingham Street, Sydney, New South Wales. He went missing at Fromelles on the 19 July 1916 and was not confirmed as killed in action until September 1917. From his Red Cross Wounded and Missing file one witness stated he had seen him shot and killed during the attack on the German trenches. His father stated on his Roll of Honour form, ‘Brothers, one killed and the other lost his leg and had several other wounds.’

His older brother, 6991 Pte. Arthur Ernest John Higgison 2nd Battalion AIF, was killed in action in Belgium, 22 September 1917, aged 38.

Another brother, 1562 Lance Corporal George Gordon Edward Higginson 4th Pioneer Battalion was severely wounded by a high explosive shell on the 29 September 1917, and his right leg was soon after amputated. He was returned to Australia during January 1918.
