Thomas 'Tim' Ouseley Blake-Lane (also noted in the family as Lane (Blake being a middle family name), enlisted despite still having tuberculosis lesions (no evidence of bacteria) and declared unfit for service, aged 50 years.
Thomas' played Australian Rules Football in both the SAFL and VFL as Tim Lane (Sturt in 1911 and Melbourne in 1912). Described as a 'redheaded schoolteacher' from Lancefield, Victoria, he stood an imposing 6'6" tall.
Thomas and his wife Lorna are the parents of Howard and Frank Ouseley Blake Lane, who also served during World War Two.
