Lieutenant Ian Urquhart McLennan (Service No:WX17098) served with the Militia in 1937 (44th Infantry Battalion) and enlisted in the ACMF on 4 September 1940 as a Sergeant (Service No:W11747) attached to 44th Infantry Battalion. Promoted to Lieutenant on 13 March 1941, he was seconded to Western Command Training School Guildford on 15 September 1941. Lieutenant McLennan then served with the AIF - No 7 Independent Coy, 2nd/5th Independent Coy and 2nd/5th Commando Squadron in New Guinea (20 August 1942 - 11 May 1943). Lieutenant McLennan was attached to 2nd/5th Commando Squadron when his appointment was terminated on 13 October 1945.

Born in 1908 in Fremantle WA, Ian was the eldest of five children of John McLennan (b1866 in Mondrook, NSW) and Florence Edna Meyer (b1886 in Eudunda, South Australia). John (a Clerk) and Florence married in 1907 in Perth WA and settled in Fremantle where they raised their family and John was a Clerk for D & J Fowler Ltd until his death in 1919.

Ian worked as a Clerk and Salesman and in 1937 served with the Militia before enlisting in the ACMF and then AIF. In 1938 in Fremantle WA, Ian married Grace Isobel Viles (b1909 in Fremantle, WA). Ian and Grace settled in Perth, and following Grace's death in 1948, Ian remarried to Patricia (Margeurite) Margaret Ryan (b1909 in Kalgoorlie, WA) - Patricia was working as a Shop Assistant in Perth. Ian and Patricia settled in Perth where Ian worked as a Clerk. Ian died in 1980 and Patricia in 1991.
