Biography

"PTE. RICHARD MILLS KILLED.

On Tuesday Mrs Fred Grey, Jun. received word that her brother, Private Richard Mills, of the 30th Battalion, was killed in action in France on May 9. The late Pte. Mills was a son of the late Mr. Richard Mills (for many years engineer for Mr E. H. Moyle and a resident of Pirie South) and was native of Port Pirie. He was 25 years of age. Prior to leaving Port Pirie, the late soldier was employed as cabinet maker at Pimlott's Ltd. He enlisted in Sydney, and had been on active service a little over two years. He had been in hospital for some time with trench fever, and had just returned to the firing line when he met his death. He was very well known in Port Pirie, and was highly popular among his many friends." - from the Port Pirie Recorder 16 May 1918 (nla.gov.au)
