22 Jan 1917: | Wounded Private, He was wounded in action on 22 January 1917 by poison gas and was admitted to the hospital. He recovered and was discharged from the hospital on 5 April 1917 and rejoined his unit in the trenches. | |
30 Apr 1917: | Wounded Private, 36th Infantry Battalion, On 30 April he was wounded again. The 36th Battalion was not involved in any major actions at this time so we can assume that Arthur was on patrol or a wiring detail. He must have been hit by machine gun fire as he suffered bullet wounds to both arms, both thighs, nose, right thumb and abdomen. He was evacuated to the aid station where he died of his wounds later that night. |
