Son of Charles Stephen and Jane Elizabeth Edwards of 71 Merritt Street, Crofton Park, Brockley, England. Brother of Arthur Henry Edwards of Crofton Park, England

He was a builder by trade, specialising in plumbing, being apprenticed to Peppercord Bros of Broadway, England for almost 4 years,

Served as a volunteer with the Queens Royal Rifles
