Son of Charles O'Neill and Catherine O'Neill of "Bethany", Sebastopol Street, Marrickville, NSW
Brother of John Patrick O'Neill MM who was killed in action on 16 October 1917 while serving with the 1st Field Artillery Brigade and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 7; Frank Joseph O'Neill who returned to Australia on 26 August 1919 having served with the 13th Battalion; Charles Bernard O'Neill who returned to Australia on 3 February 1919 having served with the 10th Field Artillery Brigade
