Australian Pomroy connections
It was quite a thrill to find a photo of E.J. Pomroy, as my dear Great Aunt, (one of the unmarried daughters of Thomas Pomroy) decided in her foggy, eccentric latter years that any family photos should be destroyed, without consultation, which she did.
EJP only arrived in Australia in 1914 to visit his Uncle and it was believed/alleged to "get away" from his wife. He was a Stonemason by trade as were many of the siblings and cousins back in Ashburton, Devon Uk. His name appears on the Ashburton Memorial but only the AWM in Australia...nothing local. I was lucky to find his WW1 records when I first searched NAA back in 1983 which were not digitised at the time. So many wonderful advances in technology.
My Grandmother, Annie Kate England (nee Pomroy) was the only girl of three of the uncle Thomas Pomroy (RN) who married and is the only family member who met any remaining family members in Ashburton when she visited in 1962.
I couldn't find any living relatives in 2014, only those in the churchyard. There are Thomas Pomroy descendants in NSW and SA but without the Pomroy surname.
