Biography

Charles worked as a sleeper cutter in the forests around Eden in NSW prior to enlisting.  He sailed on the Ayreshire from Sydney in 1914 and by May 1915 he was posted with his unit to Gallipoli. While stationed at Lone Pine he suffered a bulletwound to his left thigh and ended up hospitalised in England.

He met Alice Lucy Prince in England they married and returned to Sydney. After his discharge they settled in Eden, then Candelo and then later returned to Eden where he had his own hairdressing business.

Alice and Charlie had two sons and three daughters.  He had numerous operations over the years from his war injury and grew weaker and passed away peacefully at the age of 39. A large number of townspeople attended his funeral to pay their last respects.

His wife Alice died in 1977 at the age of 83, and is buried next to him at the Eden  Cemetery. His descendents still live in Eden.
