Sidney was the only child of John Andrews Philp (born 1857 in Glasgow, Scortland) and Catherine (Kate) McIntyre (born 1850 in Dumbarton, Scotland). John was a Ship's Steward in 1884 when he married Kate, and Sidney was born in Brisbane, QLD in 1885. John and Kate settled in Brisbane, and John worked as a Ship's Steward until he retired in 1930.
In 1912 Sidney was working as a Salesman in Brisbane QLD when he married Martha Ann Linde (born 1890 in Gympie, QLD). Sidney enlisted in the AIF in January 1916 and served as a Private and Corporal (Service No:5442) with 26th Infantry Battalion. He was WiA in France on two occasions - in 1917 and 1918, and was Discharged in March 1919.
Sidney and Martha lived in Brisbane, QLD where Sidney was a Draper before moving to Bribie Island in 1928, where Sidney worked as a Salesman. They lived at Crow's Nest on the Darling Downs where Sidney was a Storekeeper, and at Nerang in Southport where Sidney was a Smallgoods Salesman. They returned to Brisbane, where Mary died in 1969 and Sidney in 1973.
