Private Lyell Pocock (4577, 6th Battalion) was born in East Shelbourne, Victoria, and was working as a farm labourer when he enlisted in September 1915.

Lyell joined the 6th Btn on 30 July 1916 and died on 15 August 1916 of wounds received earlier that day during action at Mouquet Farm. He is buried in the Becourt Military Cemetery, Albert, France.

Lyell’s father wrote that he was 17 years and 6 months.
