Son of Charles Edward Umbers and Margaret Ummbers nee McLennan of Sea Lake, Victoria. Brother of Alexander Umbers who returned to Australia on 17 July 1919 having served with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion.
Husband of Annie Christina Umbers of Main Street, Coburg, Victoria. Charles and Annie married during 1916c in Victoria.
Commenced return to Australia on 31 May 1919 aboard HT Aeneas disembarking on 12 July 1919
