Thomas Leslie Lotton was born at Briagolong, Victoria in 1886 to parents William Andrew and Christina Lotton (nee McSween).

William Andrew Lotton, father of Thomas Leslie Lotton, died at Korumburra on 20th July, 1899.

On 15th July, 1915 Thomas Leslie Lotton enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) as a 27 year old, single, Buttermaker  from Bena Road, Korumburra, Victoria.

Private Thomas Leslie Lotton, Service number 4240, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 29th December, 1915 with the 6th Infantry Battalion, 13th Reinforcements.

He joined his Unit from Reinforcements at Serapeum on 17th March, 1916.

On 26th March, 1916 Private Lotton proceeded to join B.E.F. (British Expeditionary Force) from Alexandria. He disembarked at Marseilles, France on 2nd April, 1916.

Private Thomas Leslie Lotton was appointed Lance Corporal on 5th June, 1916 with 6th Battalion while in France

On 3rd August, 1916 Lance Corporal Lotton was admitted to No. 1 Australian Field Ambulance with Influenza.

 

Lance Corporal Thomas Leslie Lotton was wounded in action in France on 20th August, 1916 (date as recorded on Casualty Form – Active Service). He was admitted to 13th Field Ambulance on 19th August, 1916 with G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to Thigh & Shoulder then transferred the same day to No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station. Lance Corporal Lotton was admitted to No. 26 General Hospital at Etaples, France on 20th August, 1916. He embarked from Calais for England on Hospital Ship Newhaven on 25th August, 1916.

He was admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford, England on 26th August, 1916 with G.S.W. to shoulder & arm (slight).

 

Lance Corporal Thomas Leslie Lotton died on 25th September, 1916 at 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford, England from wounds received in action – GSW to thigh & Tetanus.

He was buried in Botley Cemetery, Botley, Oxfordshire, England where 7 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried.
